Bánh Mì Hot Dogs

Vegan Bánh Mì hot dogs with homemade seitan sausages, pickled veggies, jalapenos, peanuts & sriracha mayo!

Currently my house is under renovation, yesterday I got some help from a few friends. To thank them for their hard work and of course to feed ‘em, I made these hot dogs. Cause what can be better after a long day then a few good filled hot dogs?!

In origin Bánh Mì is a Vietnamese sandwich filled with meats, pickled vegetables, cilantro and some sauce. The sandwich is traditionally eaten for breakfast or as a snack. These days it’s a popular street food sandwich eaten all over the world.

Today I made my version, 100% vegan, based on the original recipe with a hot dog twist. Just because…

BANH MI HOT DOGS.

These Bánh Mì hot dogs are filled with my homemade chicken seitan sausages, piled high with crisp pickled veggies, then finished with a slather of creamy but spicy sriracha mayo, refreshing cilantro, fiery jalapenos and crunchy peanuts. All served in a crackly baguette. It is pretty much the perfect sandwich!

Because it’s been so hectic lately (and my workers were impatient and hungry…), I’m only sharing “a recipe idea”. The recipe for the sausages is linked in the recipe.

For the pickled veggies; boil some water, vinegar, sugar and salt, until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the liquid over sliced veggies of choice, and cool down completely.

These Bánh Mì hot dogs are “meaty”, spicy, sweet & tangy. Plus it’s on a crispy baguette! How can you beat that?????

This was actually my first Bánh Mì experience, but really love at first sight! The hot dogs were a true explosion of flavours. To be continued.

Bánh Mì Hot Dogs

Ingredients:

Chicken style seitan sausages

Baguettes

Pickled carrots + radishes (or veggies of choice)

Cucumber, sliced

Sriracha mayonnaise

Toasted peanuts, roughly chopped

(Pickled) jalapeno slices

Cilantro, chopped

 

Instructions:

Toast the baguettes if desired. Grill or fry the sausages, place a sausage in each baguette, top with pickled carrots + radishes and cucumber. Top with toasted peanuts, (pickled) jalapeno slices, cilantro and drizzle with Sriracha mayonnaise.

Enjoy and get messy!
